| Brief Background Narrative Back to TOP Dr. Jerry P. Galloway first received his black belt in the Chayon-Ryu system of martial arts from Grandmaster Kim Soo in Houston, Texas, and founded the Traditional Martial Arts school in 1983 and founded the Chun Tong style of martial arts. This style includes TaeKwonDo, Karate, Hapkido and Kung-Fu. Dr. Galloway is a 5th degree Master under Grandmaster K.Y. Chai and the World TaeKwonDo Federation. Dr. Galloway continues to teach the traditional approach to martial arts, reminiscent of and based on his early training in the Chayon-Ryu style founded by Grandmaster Kim Soo in 1968. Dr. Galloway has
written
several books on the older forms (Hyung) and styles of training in the
traditional style of TaeKwonDo, Karate and Kung Fu. The early editions
were used for reference in the Chayon-Ryu system for years and now,
available
in its 4th edition, the reference manual embodies a complete program
from
white belt through black belt. Dr. Galloway has also published
several
articles on teaching and training in martial arts and issues and
techniques
of self-defense and a training and reference video for beginners.
Publications now include a number of CD's and DVD's on Classic Form
performance and hand-to-hand self-defense. Dr. Galloway is a professor of education at Georgia Southern University, Statesboro, Georgia. Dr. Galloway has published several books on educational computing for teachers and dozens of articles on beginning computing, teacher training and conceptual development. Indiana University Northwest, Division of Education, offers college credit in the Health and Physical Education and Recreation (HPER) department for both a beginner level and intermediate level martial arts classes - taught by Dr. Galloway each semester. The courses are taught through the dojang (martial arts school). The school, Traditional Martial Arts, is located in Merrillville, Indiana, with a branch school located in Valparaiso, Indiana. Dr. Galloway also works as a professional drummer for The South Side Rollers - Fort Worth, Texas and Smith & Jones, recording and performing popular music.
